How to Become a #LegalNurseConsultant

Discover a clear 5-step path to becoming a #legalnurse consultant with expert guidance, affordable courses, and discounted mentorship.

#Nurses often ask me, “How do I become a legal nurse?”

The path can feel confusing, overwhelming, and expensive. You might wonder if you need years of extra schooling or thousands of dollars in fees. I’m here to let you know that you do NOT! How do I know that? Because I've been a legal nurse for a decade, and I created the online course to show you, how you too can become a legal nurse right now with your current education, training and knowledge! YES, RIGHT NOW!

Becoming a legal nurse consultant is achievable for any #RN, #LVN, #APRN, or #nurseleader who wants to expand their career. You can do this!! The more clinical experience, actually, the more valuable you are with all those 'nursesmarticles,' as I like to call them.

I’ve created an online course with 4 sessions that are 1 hour course that includes a 6-month strategy for success, two affordable books, and a course designed to get you started without breaking the bank. Plus, I offer discounted mentorship to guide you through the process.

What a Legal Nurse Consultant Actually Does

The term legal nurse covers a broad range of roles. At its core, a legal nurse uses nursing knowledge, for example, to help attorneys, insurance companies, or healthcare organizations understand medical facts in legal cases. This can include reviewing medical records, preparing chronologies, consulting on standards of care, or even serving as a nurse expert witness.

Anyone with a nursing background can become a legal nurse. You don’t need to spend thousands on degrees or certifications. I didn't. I saw a lot of courses out there that were thousands of dollars, networking and nurses coming to me still not being able to find work, and that's why I created my own Mini- Introduction To Legal Nursing Course (ITLN) to help #nurses just like you try and figure out where to spend their money. My course is designed to teach you the essentials, including nurse expert witness basics, how to create a medical record chronology, talk to lawyers, and the essentials of networking. If you don't network you won't work! With the right training, you can confidently step into this role and start consulting.

Step 1: Understand What Legal Nursing Involves

Before we dive in, I'll help you get clear on what legal nursing means. It’s not just about knowing medicine or nursing care. It’s about applying that knowledge to legal questions. You’ll learn to:

  • Analyze medical records for legal relevance

  • Identify deviations from standards of care

  • Communicate clearly with attorneys and legal teams

  • Prepare reports that explain complex medical issues in plain English

This foundation helps you see how your nursing skills translate into legal consulting. You have the skills to assist the attorney and legal team you just need the knowledge to help bridge that - that's why I created the course for you. ,

Step 2: Take a Legal Nurse Course

A focused legal nurse course is the best way to start. My Intro to Legal Nursing course covers everything you need to know to begin consulting. It’s designed for LPNs, RNs, APRNs, CRNAs, nurse leaders, travelers, and new grads exploring this career path, nurses with prior discipline on their license (organization dependent).

The course includes:

  • Step-by-step training on legal nursing fundamentals

  • How to review and summarize medical records

  • Basics of nurse expert witness roles

  • Creating medical record chronologies

  • Real-world case examples

This course is affordable and built to fit your busy nursing schedule. Plus, you get access to discounted mentorship with me to help you apply what you learn.

Step 3: Build Your Legal Nursing Skills Over Six Months

Legal nursing is a skill you develop over time. My course includes a 6-month strategy to build your confidence and expertise. During this time, you’ll:

  • Practice reviewing medical records and writing reports

  • Learn how to communicate with attorneys and legal teams

  • Understand the basics of legal procedures related to nursing

  • Get feedback and support through mentorship

This approach helps you avoid feeling overwhelmed and ensures you’re ready to take on consulting work.

Step 4: Use Affordable Resources to Support Your Learning

You don’t need expensive degrees or certifications to start. I recommend two affordable books that complement the course and deepen your understanding:

  • A guide to medical record review and chronology

  • A primer on nurse expert witness basics

These resources give you practical tools to use in your consulting work. They also help you prepare for real cases and client questions.

Step 5: Consider Mentorship to Accelerate Your Success

Mentorship can make a big difference. I offer discounted mentorship alongside the course to help you:

  • Apply course lessons to your specific goals

  • Navigate challenges in your first consulting projects

  • Build confidence in legal nursing roles

  • Network with other legal nurses and attorneys

Mentorship is optional if you want to move faster and avoid common pitfalls.

Why Choose This Path to Becoming a Legal Nurse Consultant?

Many nurses hesitate because they think legal nursing is complicated or expensive. It’s not. The word “legal nurse” covers many roles, and you can start small and grow your skills. My course and mentorship provide a clear, affordable path with practical steps.

If you want to explore legal nursing without wasting time or money, this is the way to go. Whether you’re an ICU nurse, ER nurse, APRN, CRNA, or nurse leader, you have the skills to succeed in this field.

If you’re ready to start your legal nurse journey, don’t wait. The Intro to Legal Nursing course is your first step to a new career path that uses your nursing expertise in a fresh way.
