Kansas Wasn’t an Accident. It Was a Reckoning.

Last week in Kansas, something happened that many nurses across the country quietly prayed for but didn’t think they would see.

Tough questions were asked.

Publicly.

On record.

  • About how nurses are investigated.

  • About consistency.

  • About fairness.

  • About power.

And here’s the truth: that doesn’t happen unless nurses start using their voices.

For those who’ve been following the hearings tied to the Kansas Board of Nursing and legislative oversight in Kansas, you already know — this wasn’t random. This wasn’t political theater. This was accountability.

And accountability changes systems.

A Bill Passed — And That Matters

A bill moved forward. That’s not small. Bills don’t pass because people are comfortable. Bills pass because enough pressure builds that ignoring the issue becomes harder than addressing it.

When legislation touches professional regulation, due process, oversight, or transparency — it signals something bigger:

The public is watching. Lawmakers are listening. And the narrative is shifting.

For years, nurses have whispered their experiences behind closed doors. Now, those conversations are moving into committee rooms.

That’s a cultural shift.

Why This Isn’t Just “A Kansas Thing”

If you’re a nurse in the United States, you should care.

Regulatory patterns spread. Policy language spreads. Oversight models spread.

What happens in one state becomes the template in another.

And whether boards operate with transparency or opacity often depends on one thing:

Do nurses understand the system they’re practicing inside of?

Most don’t.

Not because they’re careless. But because no one teaches it.

What's the 411 at Advocates For Nurses: I’m Doing This Mastermind

I am tired of seeing good nurses like the ones in Kansas get caught up in systems that are not fair nor just, and do not fully appreciate what is happening, and then oftentimes when the medical record is reviewed,, the documentation is poor.

Starting March 7, 2026

Every Saturday for 6 weeks

One hour. Online.

Through April 11, 2026

This isn’t fluff.

This is where we talk about: Charting that actually protects your license.

Here’s the Hard Truth

Most nurses believe:

“If I’m a good nurse, I’ll be fine.”

Skill does not equal immunity.

You can be clinically excellent and still get caught in a system you don’t understand.

And once you’re inside it?

It’s overwhelming. Emotional. Expensive.

What Kansas showed last week is this:

  • The system is not untouchable.

  • But it is powerful.

  • And power requires preparation.

Are you ready if the Board comes knocking?

This Mastermind Is For You If:

  • You want clarity before you ever receive a letter

  • You are in a high-risk specialty• You are a nurse leader

  • You’ve watched what happened in Kansas and thought, “That could happen anywhere.”

  • You don’t want to rely on hope as your protection plan

  • You will get access to the online charting course 1 hour, 1 CE, before the first Mastermind meeting online.

  • 20-page handout

  • ADDITONAL BONUS Detailed Handout

  • Checklist

  • We will talk through real scenarios.

Kansas Is a Signal

It’s a signal that nurses are starting to stand up.

It’s a signal that lawmakers are willing to listen when enough pressure builds.

And it’s a reminder that silence never reforms systems.

Education does.

Preparation does.

Community does.

If you’ve been watching the headlines and feeling that nudge in your gut — that this matters — you’re right.

I’ll see you on March 7.

Knowledge is power my fellow nurse. The more you know and understand about the very license you hold the safer you are!

In 2013 I published my book “Just a union…of nurses” in an attempt to show nurses an effective pathway to political empowerment.

Thud

The book detailed the history of the California Nursed Association as they succeeded in passing their historic staffing ratio and whistle blower protection law in 1999.

Nurses in every state can use these strategies.

I still have around 50 copies if interested

Ironically, not even the CNA/NNOC was interested in thei own history and the critique of their subsequent effort to spread nationally.

My Masters project was on pro-active media utilization and political strategies in focused causes, such as supporting or opposing legislation

I went through absolute hell and still dealing with this issue. There is no Due process given, no opportunity to request, receive a FULL discovery. These are our peers who treat us awfully. The experience I had left me strip of my constitutional rights, absolutely battered an “accusation” and my dignity and humanity was non existent!

CONGRATULATIONS KANSAS!!!
